My life was always about playing ball, mostly baseball as I grew up. Therefore, I was always at the playground on Chancellor Avenue. This was a hotbed for sports activity in the Weequahic section of Newark, New Jersey in the 1960s. From Monday through Saturday there were countless games taking place. Baseball at Untermann Field and softball on the blacktop. Basketball games, and volley ball games were always being played.

Going to the movies may not seem like a novel way for little kids to spend an afternoon. Is your golf swing too long The majority of inexperienced players I see have too long of a golf swing. So why would so many people have such long swings It all boils down to Human Nature. Human Nature says that the longer you swing the farther you will hit the ball. If this were true, why is it that I can hit a ball 300 yards with a 3/4 swing but I cant hit it 400 yards with a long swing
Move Your Head
I still remember years ago when I first started to play golf, the tip you heard the most was "keep your head still". My father used to say it to me at least 50 times a round. He thought he was doing me a favor, when really, he should have been telling me to do the exact opposite. He should have been saying "move your head a little on the way back".
Alignment - The Most Important Lesson in Golf
When I watch inexperienced golfers players hit the ball I find that they are usually mis-alinged to their target. Typically, they aim way too far out to the right. The reason they aim to the right is because the inexperienced player has the tendency to hit the ball with their arms which causes the ball to pull to the left. This means that they are compensating for a flaw in their swing by just aiming their body out to the right instead of fixing the actual flaw.
How to Practice
In a normal day of teaching golf I walk back and forth to the range numerous times. On this journey, I usually watch the different variations people have when they swing the golf club. Some of the swings are quite good and others need a lot of work. I usually think to myself that if only they could change the way they practiced they would become so much better so much faster. What do I mean exactly Well ... 99.9% of all golfers I see on the range are just whacking golf balls out there. If this is you, Ive got some bad news ... you will never improve. So what should you be doing If you are working on your swing, you have to work on your swing. This means you should forget about trying to hit every shot perfectly on the range. No pro can do this or even attempts to do this. It is called a practice range because you are there to practice what you have learned so you can take it to the course without having to think about it. If you have just been whacking balls on the range and not improving you should follow the outline below.

2005 has me going into my 15th year teaching golf. From day one, I thought that if I could come up with a technique that was fast and easy to learn I would be a pretty popular guy. So what is fast and easy Does it mean that if you take one lesson with me I can get you to shoot 72 Well ... if I could get you to shoot 72 in 1 lesson I would charge $10,000 per lesson and the line up to see me would be down the street. I'm often asked "Laura, what is the biggest mistake companies make when it comes to marketing?" The answer is easy.
The biggest mistake, I see is when a company doesn't track their marketing efforts. They simply spend their marketing budget and then they cross their fingers. In a discussion with a colleague we began to talk about the importance of the way a company treats their employees and how it affects how they then treat the company's clients. He has seen the truth of this principle in the company that he works for and today that company is experiencing ultimate success.
This conversation reminded me of an article I wrote during an epiphany moment called Internal Branding. Truth is marketing starts from the inside out. It' important to realize that if you try to start on the outside first your endeavor will fail. Branding is not only skin deep it starts with your employees. If they are not reflecting your brand this could be diminishing your marketing efforts. It's important to get your employees involved and behind your brand.

I'm a big proponent of social media marketing and I believe it will continue to play a large role in marketing as we move into the next decade. However, with that being said I also know that companies fear social media in general. They fear handing over their brand to their consumers as well as how employees will use social media and how it will affect their brand both directly and indirectly. This is a warranted fear as we've seen in the past year. I can certainly understand where they are coming from and I would like know your opinion since it's something I've been debating for a while now.
Has the line between professionalism and personal been blurred when it comes to social media? While I agree that transparency and authenticity is important in the success of social media marketing at what point can that transparency and authenticity hurt a business?
I'm not just talking about large corporate businesses here, but I'm also talking about entrepreneurs. Is there a line between professional and personal or has that line been blurred when it comes social media marketing and blogging?
What are your thoughts? Can being too personal harm your business or marketing efforts? Should there be guidelines and if so how should they be defined so that they protect the brand represented without losing personality?

I'm not psychic nor do I have a crystal ball, but I've made some marketing predictions I think you will not only find interesting, but you'll want to be aware of. I've been in marketing for the past decade and boy, have we seen some changes. We've from having our toe dipped into the interactive world while holding onto our traditional means of marketing with a death grip. I'm happy to say that is starting to change.
We are getting braver when it comes to marketing. I don't know if that's because we realize that the traditional means of marketing are not as effective or that we have just started to find more of our customers online. Truth is, the reason doesn't matter - it's happening.
I've made my predictions of the marketing methods that are phasing out as well as the marketing methods that I believe will continue to grow and soar in the next decade. You are welcome to hold my feet to the fire on this one; I'm that confident in my projections.
How will your business do in the next decade? I think that all depends on how you market and the relationships that you create and cultivate.
